About The Back-Office Fixer
Maria Torres is the pen name of this site's editorial team. We use one name and one consistent voice so the site reads like it comes from one place, but there's no single person called Maria, and we won't pretend otherwise. You won't find invented "when I ran my cleaning company" stories here.
Our guides are researched from published sources: vendors' pricing pages, plan terms and help centers, the IRS and the Small Business Administration, industry surveys, plus readers' real experiences when they share them with us. We link every source and give the date we checked it. When we use a scenario to show how the numbers work, we say clearly that it's an example, not a real business.
What we cover
The back office of a US home-service business: field service software, pricing and quoting, invoicing and payments, scheduling and routing, winning customers, and bookkeeping and taxes.
How we approach it
- Owner-operator first. We start from a one-person business or a small crew, because that's who most software reviews forget.
- Real monthly cost. List prices, annual versus monthly billing, extra users and payment fees, added up the way your bank statement will show them.
- Hours saved, not features listed. A feature only matters if it takes admin off your evenings.
- Honest about when you don't need it. If a free invoicing app is enough for now, we say so.
How the site is paid for
The guides are free to read. We may earn a commission from links, at no cost to you, for example when you sign up for software through a partner link. We may also show ads. That never changes what our guides say. See our affiliate disclosure for details.
Corrections
Software prices change often, and we make mistakes. If you spot something wrong or out of date, please tell us with the source and we'll fix it and note the change.
